Melissa (Melisa)

Jaz sem jo do sedaj že 3x, saj imam rada mlade lističe melise.

MELISA (Melissa officinalis)

Listi so jajčasti, z nazobčanim robom in izrazitimi listnimi žilami. Korenine so razrasle in lasaste.

• Naredite melisin sirup. Poleg lahko dodate tudi liste mete.
Naredite poletne napitke in dodajte meliso.

Sveži listi vsebujejo vitamine in razne encime.

- zavira delovanje bacilov, virusov in glivic

English:

The gardens are already full of lemon balm. Lemon balm is one of my favorite herbs because of its odor of lemons. And because I love lemons, as you probably already know, this is also an ideal herb for me. This year I bought a lot of seedlings because I will make a syrup in the next days (for me is a little bit better syrup than the elder syrup). I will also have a lot dried herb for tea and tea mixtures because last year was my collection to small.

The herb is named after bees. Why? Because lemon balm attracts bees. So if you want a lot of bees near your home or you have a beehive you absolutely need a seedling of lemon balm.

Lemon balm is a non-complicated plant for growth so if you´re lucky you can cut up to 6 times a year. I cut lemon balm for 3 times so far in this year because I like young leaves of lemon balm

LEMON BALM (Melissa officinalis)

Lemon balm is a perennial shrub which grows up to 80cm high. The stem is square, heavily branched, sprinkled with tiny hairs. The leaves are egg-shaped with scalloped edge and distinctive leaf veins. They´re long up to 6 cm and under the top surface slightly hairy. The flowers are white or slightly pink, united in groups of three to six flowers. It blooms from June to September. The roots have grown and hairline. Lemon balm grows in gardens and plantations, while in nature you can find the wild one. It can also be grown in a flower pot or trough.

USAGE

Leaves are the most important part for gathering. Their suitable time for gathering is from July to October. If you gather the whole herb cut by 10cm above the ground. Cutting stimulates growth of leaves. In the case of drying the leaves be careful not crushed leaves and rubbed each other because they can blacken.

You can make tea from lemon balm from fresh or dried plant. Tea calms the nervous disorders of the stomach and the heart, helps with hysteria, melancholy, impaired digestion, intestinal cramps, flatulence, headache, ... Tea acts as a stimulant for intensive mental and physical exertion.

You can also prepare a lemon balm tincture, which is great for the head in nervous headaches and pain-relieving rheumatism, aching muscles, contusions, sprains, ... Soak fresh lemon balm in 70% alcohol and put on warm for 14 days. After this time, strain and give in the dark.

In culinary you can use lemon balm for:

- Add lemon balm to fruit saladns for a fruity, lemon flavor.
- Make your own salad dressing with lemon balm.
- Next time you add lemon zest to a scone or muffin recipe add some chopped lemon balm leaves as well.
- Make lemon balm honey butter (simply soften butter, add honey and chopped lemon balm, mix and let harden it).
- Make a herbal ice tea
- make a lemon balm syrup. You can also add some mint leaves.
- Make one of these delicious and refreshing summer punches or teas.
- Add it to your water for a slight lemony taste. I use fresh lemon balm leaves in water for refreshment. I prepare a bottle with some leaves of lemon balm and that's it.
